PETRONAS has achieved two new hydrocarbon discoveries and a successful appraisal in Suriname’s offshore Block 52, pushing its cumulative recoverable resources in the country past one billion barrels of oil equivalent. This milestone accelerates the development of the Suriname-Guyana basin as a premier deepwater energy hub.

According to official disclosures, PETRONAS has achieved two new exploration discoveries and a successful appraisal within offshore Block 52 in Suriname. The Caiman-1 and Swartzia Aspasia Complex-1 wells encountered oil and gas-bearing sandstone reservoirs, respectively, while the Roystonea-2 appraisal confirmed the lateral extent of existing oil deposits.

PETRONAS is a Malaysian multinational energy corporation headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, engaged in global upstream, downstream, and gas marketing operations. These recent drilling successes bring the operator's total productive wells in the nation to eight, collectively unlocking over one billion barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources.

Operating Block 52 with an 80 percent stake alongside Staatsolie’s Paradise Oil Company, the firm is rapidly advancing regional energy infrastructure. The findings reinforce the geological viability of the Golden Lane corridor, positioning the broader Suriname-Guyana basin as a critical deepwater production center for the international energy sector.

This operational momentum follows the late-2025 commerciality declaration for the Sloanea gas field, with a final investment decision anticipated by late 2026. For investors and regional stakeholders, this accelerated extraction timeline signals robust long-term hydrocarbon yields, strengthening the strategic importance of South America's northern coast in global energy supply chains.
