Power2X has finalized its investment decision to begin construction on the 20 MW Djewels green hydrogen facility in the Netherlands. Expected to launch in 2028, the project will utilize high-pressure electrolysis to supply regional industrial markets.

Power2X, a European developer specializing in large-scale plastic, hydrogen, and chemical decarbonization projects, has reached a final investment decision to initiate construction on its 20-megawatt Djewels green hydrogen plant in Delfzijl, Netherlands. The facility represents the company's inaugural development since acquiring hydrogen developer HyCC earlier this year. Backed by local, national, and European Union public funding, the project has secured all necessary irrevocable permits and is scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2028.

This development underscores the transition toward commercially viable industrial decarbonization in Western Europe. By validating higher-pressure and higher-current-density alkaline electrolysis technology provided by engineering joint venture Rely, the project seeks to establish a blueprint for reducing both physical footprints and capital costs in future utility-scale hydrogen architecture. The plant will directly impact the chemical and heavy industrial manufacturing sectors within the Groningen province.

The facility is designed to output approximately 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, which will be integrated directly into nearby industrial infrastructure, including systems operated by project partner Nobian. This localized supply network reduces transport logistics and supports regional regulatory compliance for carbon reduction.

For institutional investors and energy enterprises, the venture demonstrates the growing viability of integrated industrial clean energy assets. By securing firm regional off-take structures and advanced technology validation, the project provides a benchmark for scalable hydrogen infrastructure, lowering technical risks for subsequent clean energy deployments across the European Union.
