INDIA —Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has announced the successful commercial commissioning of the transmission infrastructure designated for evacuating power from the 20 GW renewable energy zone located in Rajasthan under phase-III Part-C1. Operations officially commenced on September 22, 2026, with the formal notification for commercial operation received in October 2026.
This development is crucial for expanding national green energy integration capabilities, as extensive renewable capacity additions require robust transmission backbones to prevent grid congestion and curtailment issues. By streamlining power evacuation from high-potential solar and wind regions, the infrastructure supports India's broader decarbonization objectives and clean energy targets.
The project primarily impacts stakeholders within the power and utilities sector, renewable energy developers operating in western India, and regional distribution utilities. Enhanced transmission capacity ensures steady power flow from large-scale generation hubs to demand centers, minimizing commercial losses for energy generators.
From a market and strategic perspective, this milestone reinforces grid reliability and investor confidence in renewable energy deployment. Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, engaged in transmission, distribution, and project consultancy across the country.
