PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk has agreed to acquire a 10 percent non-operating interest in four production sharing contracts located in the Kutei Basin of East Kalimantan, Indonesia, from Eni S.p.A., securing access to established liquefied natural gas value chains and major exploration prospects.

INDONESIA —PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk is a prominent Southeast Asian energy and natural resources corporation engaged in oil and gas exploration, power generation, and mining operations. Eni S.p.A. is an integrated multinational energy company operating globally across oil, gas, and low-carbon energy sectors.

Indonesian energy producer PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk has finalized an agreement to purchase a 10 percent non-operating interest across four production sharing contracts situated in the Kutei Basin within East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The acquired assets encompass the Muara Bakau, Ganal, West Ganal, and East Ganal areas, representing a combination of active production sites, ongoing development projects, and extensive exploration acreage that features the significant Geliga natural gas discovery. Operational control of these assets rests with Searah, a joint venture established between Eni S.p.A. and PETRONAS.

This portfolio expansion integrates directly into the buyer's regional operations by connecting corporate infrastructure to established liquefied natural gas value chains. The transaction bolsters long-term hydrocarbon output through active extraction fields and ongoing major gas initiatives, while introducing substantial exploration upside via prospective regional basins and extensive inventories of future prospects.

The agreement carries considerable operational implications for upstream participants and regional energy markets by consolidating stakes in prolific hydrocarbon provinces. Stakeholders across Southeast Asia's oil and gas sector anticipate that coordinated development within the Kutei Basin will further reinforce regional liquefied natural gas supply networks and attract additional investments into major offshore fields, subject to standard closing conditions and regulatory clearances.
