Rajasthan accelerates INR 16.91 billion water infrastructure expansion for Udaipur supply

Rajasthan has advanced the construction of its INR 16.91 billion Dewas water supply project, reaching initial progress milestones. The initiative will divert 28.34 million cubic meters of water annually to Udaipur, strengthening urban water resilience.

Rajasthan state authorities have progressed implementation work on the multi-billion-rupee Dewas water project designed to secure long-term raw water distribution for Udaipur city. The infrastructure scheme, carrying an estimated outlay of INR 16.91 billion, achieved 11 percent physical completion and 13 percent financial utilization with total expenditures reaching INR 2.19 billion. Key construction work centers around the establishment of Dewas Dam III and Dam IV in Gogunda tehsil, which will hold combined storage capacities of 30.95 million cubic meters, alongside a complex underground tunneling network connecting the Dewas and Akodra reservoirs.

The Water Resources Department of Rajasthan plans, constructs, and maintains major water infrastructure projects across the state to manage surface water distribution, irrigation facilities, and urban water security networks. Securing final federal environmental clearances and state forest land permissions has enabled civil engineering operations to scale up. Upon completion, the project will channel an annual volume of 28.34 million cubic meters of surface water into Udaipur lake systems, relieving seasonal supply strain and building municipal capacity against hydrological variability.
