SINGAPORE —Asia-Pacific real asset manager ESR has signed an agreement to acquire a 100% stake in clean energy platform Aquila Clean Energy APAC from Hamburg-based investment firm Aquila Group. Expected to close by the first quarter of 2027 subject to customary regulatory approvals, the transaction expands ESR's capabilities across adjacent infrastructure sectors. ESR is a real estate and real asset management company headquartered in Hong Kong, focusing on logistics properties, data centers, and renewable energy assets across the Asia-Pacific region.
The deal incorporates a 1.6 GW Asia-Pacific portfolio encompassing operational, construction, and pipeline projects across solar, wind, and battery energy storage assets. These operational assets and development projects are situated across several target regional markets, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
This strategic integration addresses the escalating energy demands of modern industrial assets, specifically high-density data centers and automated logistics networks. By pairing utility-scale power generation directly with its core real estate footprint, ESR aims to mitigate power supply risks, enhance asset resilience, and deliver broader real asset investment solutions to capital partners.
The acquisition highlights a growing trend among regional infrastructure managers to bridge the gap between digital economy real estate and clean power availability. As industrial decarbonization and grid capacity constraints continue to impact Asia-Pacific markets, ownership of renewable energy generation and energy storage assets becomes an increasingly critical differentiator for large-scale logistics and data center platforms.
