GERMANY —German transport operator Reinert Logistics has signed a contract with Volvo Trucks for 500 Volvo FH Aero gas-powered trucks, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. The order is the largest gas-powered truck order received by Volvo Trucks to date and follows Reinert’s deployment of an initial 50-truck Volvo gas-powered fleet.
The purchase expands the use of gas-powered heavy vehicles within Reinert Logistics’ operations and provides Volvo with a large-scale customer deployment in the German transport market. Volvo Trucks has delivered more than 10,000 gas-powered trucks globally, with its gas-powered heavy-duty range able to operate on conventional LNG or bio-LNG produced from organic waste.
The development is relevant to freight operators evaluating alternatives to conventional diesel vehicles while maintaining long-haul operating capability. Volvo’s gas-powered trucks can travel up to 1,000 km on a single tank, subject to operating conditions, vehicle weight and other factors. This range supports applications including long-distance freight and regional distribution where refuelling infrastructure is available.
Germany is an important market for bio-LNG adoption. Data cited by Volvo from the German gas and hydrogen association shows that bio-LNG represented around 98.5% of fuel sold at German LNG filling stations in 2025. For logistics companies, the availability and cost of renewable gas can therefore influence fleet investment decisions alongside vehicle performance and operating requirements.
The order also has implications for the commercial-vehicle and alternative-fuels sectors, including LNG and bio-LNG suppliers, fuelling infrastructure operators and fleet-service providers. Volvo Trucks supplies medium- and heavy-duty trucks through a global dealer and service network and is part of Volvo Group.
For fleet owners and transport investors, the agreement indicates continued commercial deployment of gas-powered trucks alongside battery-electric and other lower-emission technologies. The scale of the purchase provides an example of how established freight operators are expanding alternative-fuel fleets where vehicle range, fuel availability and operating economics align.
