Rezolv Energy has energised the initial 192MW phase of the VIFOR wind farm in Romania, marking the country's largest new wind development in over a decade. Supported by multi-lender debt financing and corporate power purchase agreements, the project supports regional decarbonisation goals.

ROMANIA —Rezolv Energy has officially energised Phase 1 of the VIFOR wind farm located in Buzău County, Romania. The 192MW initial stage features 30 Vestas EnVentus V162 turbines, each rated at 6.4MW, with Vestas serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction partner. Upon completion of Phase 2 in 2027, the total facility capacity will reach 461MW, establishing it among the largest onshore wind installations in Europe. Rezolv Energy is an independent renewable energy producer in Central and Southeastern Europe backed by sustainable infrastructure investors Actis and Mubadala, maintaining a regional development portfolio exceeding 2.8GW across wind and solar assets.

This commissioning operationalises Romania's largest wind installation since 2015, restarting momentum in a sector that had experienced prolonged stagnation. Romania currently maintains approximately 3GW of installed wind capacity, falling short of its National Energy and Climate Plan target of 7.3GW by 2030. Infrastructure developments of this scale provide essential generation assets to assist national regulatory bodies in bridging this gap, reducing grid dependence on fossil fuels, and bolstering energy security across Southeastern Europe.

The project received capital backing through an initial project financing package of up to €291 million provided by a consortium of eight financial institutions, including Erste Group, UniCredit Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Finance Corporation, Intesa Sanpaolo, Raiffeisen Bank International, OTP Bank, and Garanti BBVA Romania. Commercial viability is underscored by long-term corporate power purchase agreements covering over 350GWh annually with off-takers including T-Mobile Czech Republic, Slovak Telekom, CE Colo Czech Republic, Bekaert, A2A, and Etem Gestamp. An additional financing facility of up to €331 million has been arranged to fund the upcoming second construction stage.

The expansion of utility-scale renewable generation in the region accelerates corporate decarbonisation strategies by providing multinational industrial and telecommunications off-takers with long-term, fixed-price green power agreements. Furthermore, the deployment establishes localized infrastructure and technical training initiatives in commercial supply chains, creating structured frameworks for future private equity and institutional debt investment across Eastern European energy markets.
