RITES Ltd. has achieved a major engineering milestone with the successful erection of the final segment of the steel pylon for the Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The completed steel pylon measures 68.5 meters in height and rises approximately 78.5 meters above ground level, forming the central structural element of the cable-stayed bridge. RITES is acting as the Supervision Consultant for the Western Railways Passenger Amenities and Road Over Bridge project, overseeing construction quality and project execution.

The Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed ROB is being developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as its first-ever cable-stayed bridge over active railway tracks. Once completed, the bridge will serve as a key transportation corridor connecting South Mumbai to the Mumbai Coastal Road, helping improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in one of the city's busiest areas.

The project was approved by the BMC Standing Committee to address growing traffic demands, with work orders issued in January 2020 and construction commencing in February 2020. Since the existing Mahalaxmi bridge is a vital transport link, it will remain operational until the new cable-stayed bridge is completed, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during construction.

The successful completion of the pylon installation represents a critical phase in the project and brings the bridge one step closer to completion. Upon commissioning, the new Road Over Bridge is expected to enhance urban mobility, improve connectivity across Mumbai's railway corridor, and support the city's expanding transportation infrastructure.
