Romania's state rail infrastructure manager, CFR SA, has selected a consortium headed by Siemens Mobility, alongside domestic partners ELSITEL and IMSAT, to execute three major signaling upgrades valued at approximately EUR 308 million. The extensive infrastructure initiative encompasses the replacement of legacy mechanical and electrodynamic interlocking systems across roughly 560 kilometers of track. Scope of work includes upgrading 66 railway stations, 122 level crossings, 13 centralized control centers, and more than 2,000 signaling units situated within the regional rail branches of Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, and Galați.
Siemens Mobility is a separately managed subsidiary of Siemens AG specializing in rail rolling stock, rail automation, electrification, and intelligent traffic management software.
