Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has received a Letter of Acceptance from East Coast Railway for a signaling upgrade contract worth INR INR 1.61 billion. The project involves installing Multi-Section Digital Axle Counters across the Khurda Road division within an 18-month execution period.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has secured a significant domestic railway infrastructure contract valued at INR 1610.25 million from East Coast Railway (ECoR). The project entails the provision of Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC) systems to enhance operational reliability in the Automatic Block Signaling (ABS) section stretching from Mancheswar (MZY) to Khurda Road (KUR). Additionally, the scope encompasses extensive alterations to Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems across key stations including Rajathgarh, Joranda Road, Shamsundarpur, Dhenkanal, Hindol Road, and Talcher Road within the Khurda Road division in Odisha, India.

The contract has been awarded under East Coast Railway's standard General Conditions of Contract and requires execution within a strict 18-month timeframe. ECoR serves as a zonal division under Indian Railways, responsible for overseeing vital rail infrastructure and transit operations across Odisha and adjacent regions. RVNL, a executive arm and public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, specializes in building rail infrastructure, engineering works, and modernizing signal networks across the national railway footprint.

This strategic award underscores the ongoing push by Indian Railways to modernize legacy signaling systems and replace traditional train-detection equipment with advanced digital solutions. Implementing MSDAC technology along busy corridors drastically increases block section reliability, optimizes line capacity, and minimizes signal-related train delays. By altering existing Electronic Interlocking systems supplied by diverse global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the project integrates modern safety infrastructure into established regional rail networks.

For market observers and investors, the win reinforces RVNL’s dominant order book trajectory in domestic railway Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects. The successful deployment of digital signaling components reflects broader capital expenditure priorities in India’s transportation sector, where public procurement increasingly favors systemic safety enhancements, high-density line capacity expansion, and tech-driven rail operations.
