SINGAPORE —According to official disclosures, Safran Aircraft Engines, a global commercial aircraft engine manufacturer, and SIA Engineering Company, a Singapore-based aerospace maintenance provider, formalized a joint venture to develop a LEAP engine maintenance facility in Singapore. The French manufacturer will hold a 51 percent stake, with the Singaporean firm retaining 49 percent.
This development addresses the accelerating maintenance requirements of the expanding global LEAP fleet. Consolidating existing operations into a modernized hub will significantly increase shop visit capacity and broaden services for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B powerplants.
For the aerospace industry, this facility strengthens the Asia-Pacific maintenance ecosystem. As airlines rely on fuel-efficient engines to meet sustainability targets, localized maintenance infrastructure is essential to minimize aircraft downtime.
Strategically, the joint venture solidifies Singapore’s aerospace hub status. It merges original equipment manufacturing expertise with regional maintenance capabilities, positioning the parent companies to capture a larger share of the long-term aftermarket support market.
