ANGOLA —Saipem, an Italian multinational oilfield services provider, and Azule Energy, an offshore energy joint venture between Eni and bp, announced a $1 billion agreement for subsea development offshore Angola. According to official disclosures, the 40-month contract covers engineering, fabrication, and installation for the Greater PAJ ultra-deepwater project, located roughly 200 kilometers off the coast.
The scope encompasses deploying over 270 kilometers of rigid pipelines, flexible flowlines, and umbilicals at depths reaching 2,000 meters. This development highlights continued capital deployment in sub-Saharan Africa’s complex offshore basins. By utilizing Saipem’s Ambriz fabrication yard and deploying specialized vessels, the project integrates local industrial participation with advanced marine engineering.
For operators, securing established service providers with local yard access mitigates execution risks in challenging ultra-deepwater environments. For Saipem, the award reinforces its financial backlog and solidifies its strategic foothold in the Angolan market, demonstrating how localized infrastructure supports long-term hydrocarbon production in technically demanding regions.
