TURKEY —Offshore engineering and energy services company Saipem has secured a new service agreement from GOE Petrol Sanayi to perform commissioning operations for the Osman Gazi Floating Production Unit. The contracted scope of work spans an estimated duration of eight months, focusing on final facility integration, quality control, and operational readiness. This contract builds upon a previous operational readiness and assurance support agreement awarded to Saipem in April 2026 for the same asset.
Saipem S.p.A. is an Italian energy engineering firm specializing in advanced offshore drilling, subsea construction, and energy infrastructure commissioning. GOE Petrol Sanayi operates specialized offshore asset components on behalf of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation, the national state-owned oil and gas entity of Türkiye responsible for hydrocarbon exploration and production across domestic land and sea concessions. The Sakarya gas field, situated roughly 170 kilometers off the Turkish coastline at a water depth of 2,150 meters, is the largest natural gas discovery in the Black Sea region.
The deployment of the Osman Gazi floating production system represents a crucial operational bridge to scale up natural gas extraction in Türkiye's deepwater zone. Integrating specialized floating production assets is essential to process raw gas directly at the offshore site before pumping it to onshore processing plants. Completing rigorous commissioning phases ensures operational safety, structural compliance, and continuous flow assurance in harsh marine environments, mitigating the risk of expensive operational interruptions during full-scale gas production.
