Samsung SDI has finalized a 1 GWh supply agreement with Alpha Omega Power, bringing their total contracted capacity to 1.5 GWh. The US-manufactured prismatic energy storage systems will support grid reliability projects in the WECC and ERCOT markets, reinforcing domestic supply chains and non-Chinese battery sourcing in North America.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA —Samsung SDI America has executed a 1 GWh supply agreement with Alpha Omega Power, a United States utility-scale battery storage developer. This latest contract builds upon an initial arrangement, elevating the total committed supply capacity to 1.5 GWh. The agreement mandates that all energy storage system solutions be manufactured domestically at the StarPlus Energy facility located in Kokomo, Indiana, with delivery scheduled before the end of the current year.

Samsung SDI is a South Korean multinational corporation specializing in advanced battery technologies and electronic materials. The contracted solution, designated as the Samsung Battery Box 1.7, utilizes high-nickel nickel cobalt aluminum prismatic cells. This iteration delivers a seventeen percent increase in energy density compared to its predecessor while maintaining an identical twenty-foot footprint. The system integrates artificial intelligence-driven algorithms for predictive maintenance and anomaly detection, designed for a twenty-five-year operational lifespan.

This development addresses critical grid reliability challenges amid accelerating power demand growth. The supplied systems have achieved rigorous safety certifications, including National Fire Protection Association 855 and Underwriters Laboratories 9540 standards. Furthermore, the incorporation of proprietary enhanced direct injection technology provides module-level fire suppression, mitigating thermal runaway risks that have historically hindered large-scale energy storage deployments.

The strategic alignment between these entities directly supports infrastructure projects within the Western Electricity Coordinating Council and Electric Reliability Council of Texas markets. By localizing production, the partnership satisfies stringent domestic content requirements increasingly mandated by United States energy policies. This positioning is particularly advantageous given current geopolitical dynamics influencing global battery supply chains.

As the sole non-Chinese provider of prismatic energy storage batteries in the North American market, Samsung SDI capitalizes on a distinct competitive moat. The durability and safety profiles of prismatic formats are increasingly preferred by United States energy developers over alternative pouch-type configurations. This expanded footprint solidifies the manufacturer's foundation in the region, positioning it to capture forthcoming procurement opportunities as independent power producers scale their renewable integration capabilities.
