MATARAT Holding and the National Center for Privatization & PPP have launched the Request for Proposals for a new airport in Taif. The 30-year build-transfer-operate project aims to service 2.5 million passengers by 2030.

Saudi Arabia has officially initiated the competitive bidding phase for the construction and long-term operation of the new Taif International Airport under a public-private partnership framework. According to official disclosures, the project will be executed via a 30-year build-transfer-operate contract, covering the comprehensive design, development, funding, and maintenance of the greenfield facility located 21 kilometers southeast of the current airport site. MATARAT Holding, which manages the Kingdom's airport assets, operates alongside the National Center for Privatization & PPP to orchestrate these infrastructural shifts in alignment with national economic diversification targets.

The scope of work encompasses a new runway, an integrated parallel taxiway, a modern passenger terminal, and supporting commercial aprons and surface transport links, engineered to accommodate 2.5 million travelers annually by 2030. Scalable architectural provisions are embedded to absorb subsequent expansion demands through 2055.

This development marks a critical step in the deregulation of the Middle Eastern aviation ecosystem, shifting capital expenditure burdens from the public treasury to international consortia and private developers. By transitioning to concession-based infrastructure models, regional authorities are accelerating procurement timelines and introducing global operational efficiencies to regional hubs.

For institutional investors, logistics enterprises, and civil engineering firms, this project represents a high-yield gateway into the expanding Saudi aviation market. The expansion is poised to stimulate the regional hospitality, tourism, and supply chain networks by enhancing air connectivity beyond the primary metropolitan entry points, solidifying the economic viability of the broader commercial ecosystem.
