Saudi Downtown Company has awarded an engineering, design, and construction contract to Al-Ojaimi Contracting to build a primary electrical substation and associated distribution infrastructure for its flagship urban development in Al Khobar.

Saudi Downtown Company has finalized a commercial agreement with domestic engineering firm Al-Ojaimi Contracting to execute key power infrastructure for the Al Khobar Downtown development project. Under the terms of the deal, Al-Ojaimi Contracting will oversee the end-to-end design, construction, and integration of a primary high-voltage substation alongside associated power delivery networks. The infrastructure is engineered to secure a high-reliability electrical supply designed to meet peak operational demands across the multi-use urban district.

Established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Saudi Downtown Company focuses on developing sustainable urban destinations across 12 cities in the Kingdom to boost local economies and improve quality of life. The latest contract execution serves as a crucial foundational phase for the Al Khobar Downtown development, ensuring utility Readiness prior to above-ground superstructure construction and commercial tenant rollout. Infrastructure reliability remains a vital requisite for mixed-use developments that integrate residential, commercial, and leisure spaces into a single high-density footprint.

For the broader construction and engineering services market in the Middle East, the partnership signals ongoing capital deployment toward secondary urban centers outside major metropolitan hubs like Riyadh and Jeddah. Regional utility providers, equipment original equipment manufacturers, and sub-contractors stand to benefit from sustained procurement pipelines linked to master-planned municipal transformations across the Kingdom.

From an investment and strategic perspective, establishing robust utility systems reduces long-term operational risk for private developers and institutional investors participating in Saudi Arabia's urban revitalization program. By securing utility infrastructure early through specialized contractors, master developers ensure project timelines align with national economic diversification objectives, creating stable commercial nodes capable of attracting long-term business tenants and regional commerce.
