AUSTRALIA —A strategic partnership has been established between Sweden-based energy technology developer SeaTwirl and Australian project developer Hunter Floating Offshore Wind Pty Ltd (HFLOW) to pursue a 20 MW floating offshore wind demonstration project. The initiative targets the Hunter offshore wind zone located off the coast of Newcastle in New South Wales.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hunter Floating Offshore Wind will steer regional development responsibilities including local permits, financing infrastructure connections, and stakeholder integration. Meanwhile, SeaTwirl will supply the foundational engineering architecture, technical designs, and specialized support derived from its participation in the European Union-backed VERTI-GO framework.
This initiative addresses critical infrastructure hurdles in developing regional energy markets, where conventional turbine installations often demand intensive maritime construction yards and specialized heavy-lift vessels. The proposed 2-megawatt floating vertical-axis platform aims to bypass these constraints by allowing deployment and servicing via smaller, readily available commercial watercraft.
