The deployment addresses severe capacity constraints within the UK healthcare framework. NHS pathology departments face escalating case volumes alongside acute shortages of reporting consultants and increasing subspecialization. By replacing physical glass slide transport and fragmented administrative routing with cloud-based digital referral, the system enables trusts to delegate cases directly to external specialists and integrate returned diagnostic reports straight into primary patient records.
This contract marks the first application of Sectra's image-sharing backbone outside its primary domain of radiology, signaling a key transition toward integrated enterprise imaging networks across public healthcare systems.
