AUSTRALIA —KGL Resources Limited has awarded a major design, procurement, and construction contract to Sedgman, a wholly owned company of CIMIC Group, for the delivery of the processing plant at the Jervois Copper Project in the Northern Territory of Australia. Under the terms of the agreement, Sedgman will lead the complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scope, which includes the commissioning, testing, and operational setup of the facility along with associated infrastructure and supporting site services. Detailed engineering activities and the strategic procurement of long-lead process equipment are already actively underway to support project delivery schedules.
The Jervois Copper Project represents one of the most advanced copper developments in northern Australia, designed to supply critical raw materials required for global electrification, battery storage, and renewable energy infrastructure. The proposed processing facility is engineered to process up to 2.00 million tonnes of copper ore per annum. The plant will utilize standard industrial crushing, grinding, flotation, and thickening circuits to yield a high-grade single copper concentrate. Sedgman brings deep domain expertise to the project, having provided ongoing engineering, metallurgical testwork, and feasibility consulting on Jervois since 2017.
This contract award highlights the increasing capital deployment across the global mining and mineral processing sector, driven by surging long-term demand for energy transition metals. As industrial markets shift toward decarbonization and clean energy networks, demand for refined copper and high-purity concentrate continues to outpace near-term production capacities. EPC partners capable of offering fully integrated delivery models play a crucial role in mitigating operational risks, controlling capital expenditures, and accelerating time-to-market for complex resource assets in remote mining jurisdictions.
From a market standpoint, the formalization of this execution agreement establishes seamless project continuity for KGL Resources as it transitions the Jervois asset from front-end design into active site execution. For CIMIC Group and its specialist engineering arm Sedgman, the partnership reaffirms their strong positioning within the critical minerals services market across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Secure execution structures and early-stage contractor involvement remain primary catalysts for technical risk reduction and long-term project viability in the resources sector.
