Lam Research plans to invest ₹100 billion in India to build a silicon component manufacturing facility and expand its R&D hub, boosting the country's advanced chip ecosystem and technical workforce.

INDIA Semiconductor equipment manufacturer Lam Research is committing nearly ₹100 billion to establish its inaugural silicon component manufacturing plant in India alongside a major expansion of its research and development facilities.

The upcoming manufacturing plant will enable vertically integrated operations, covering silicon ingot production and processing for cutting-edge semiconductor node technologies. Concurrently, the R&D expansion will enhance the capabilities of the company's existing engineering center in the country, which already handles critical product design, testing, validation, and technology development for global clients.

This substantial capital deployment aligns with India's broader strategic push to build an end-to-end semiconductor supply chain and establish domestic high-tech manufacturing capacities. By localizing key component production, the initiative strengthens domestic supply resilience while reinforcing the nation's positioning within the global semiconductor value chain.

The investment will deliver major gains to the domestic electronics ecosystem, precision manufacturing sectors, and specialized engineering industries. Beyond infrastructure, the move includes ongoing technical talent initiatives, such as virtual platform training programs conducted in partnership with academic and government bodies to upskill up to 60,000 engineering students.

For enterprise stakeholders and investors, the expansion underscores growing confidence in India's technology ecosystem and supportive policy environment. It signals accelerated maturity in regional supply networks, offering technology firms enhanced access to localized component manufacturing and a expanding pool of specialized engineering talent.

Lam Research is a major global supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry, specializing in critical etch and deposition processes used to create microprocessors, memory, and advanced integrated circuits.
