Sempra Infrastructure begins first LNG production at Mexico Pacific Coast facility

Sempra Infrastructure has achieved first liquefied natural gas (LNG) production during commissioning at its ECA LNG Phase 1 plant in Mexico, positioning the facility to supply North American gas to Pacific Basin markets by late 2026.

Sempra Infrastructure has initiated the initial production of liquefied natural gas during the commissioning phase of its ECA LNG Phase 1 project located in Ensenada, Mexico. Developed as a joint venture with TotalEnergies, the facility features a single liquefaction train with a nominal design capacity of 3.25 million tonnes per annum. Sempra Infrastructure is a North American energy infrastructure company focused on developing renewable energy, LNG export facilities, and clean power networks. Commercial operations at the Pacific Coast site are scheduled to commence following substantial project completion in mid-2026, according to company disclosures.

This milestone establishes an alternative export pathway for North American natural gas, allowing suppliers to bypass traditional bottlenecks like the Panama Canal to reach energy-importing nations across Asia. By utilizing existing pipeline networks from the United States to Mexico's western coastline, the project reduces transit times and shipping costs for Pacific Basin buyers. Industrial utilities and commodity traders will see expanded geographic optionality and diversified supply chains.

Furthermore, the operational progress provides long-term revenue visibility for project stakeholders, supported by binding sales and purchase commitments already secured with Mitsui & Co. and TotalEnergies.
