Siemens Mobility has reached an agreement to acquire the primary signaling, electrification, and diagnostics divisions of Italy’s MERMEC Group. The deal, involving businesses with approximately 430 million EUR in revenue, is designed to integrate advanced diagnostic vehicle technology into Siemens' global rail infrastructure portfolio.

Siemens Mobility is set to significantly broaden its rail infrastructure capabilities by acquiring the core business units of MERMEC Group, focusing on wayside signaling, electrification, and high-tech diagnostics. According to official disclosures, the transaction includes MERMEC’s data infrastructure and its extensive fleet of diagnostic measurement trains, which currently serve clients in more than 70 countries. Siemens Mobility is a separately managed company of Siemens AG specializing in transport solutions, while MERMEC is a prominent Italian innovator in rail signaling and infrastructure monitoring.

This acquisition is strategically vital as it merges Siemens’ digital asset intelligence with MERMEC’s specialized diagnostic hardware. By acquiring the Ferrosud site in Matera and incorporating 1,700 employees, Siemens secures a robust industrial base in Italy to support the digitalization of national mainline networks. The integration addresses a growing market demand for predictive maintenance, combining depot-based analytics with mobile infrastructure inspection systems to improve network resilience. For the global rail and logistics sectors, the deal signals a move toward a unified, scalable diagnostics platform. The combined portfolio will likely set new standards for real-time monitoring of electrification and signaling systems, reducing operational downtime for rail operators.

For investors, the acquisition is expected to be EPS accretive by the second year post-closing, which is anticipated by the end of 2026. The strategic emphasis on cross-selling MERMEC’s high-precision measurement technologies through Siemens’ global sales network highlights a clear path toward capturing higher market share in the rapidly modernizing European and international railway markets.
