India’s Ministry of Home Affairs awarded a ₹1.55 billion order to a consortium of Sigma Advanced Systems and Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems for mobile anti-drone patrol vehicles to secure border areas, VVIP movement routes, and urban streets.
In a major boost to national security, the Ministry of Home Affairs has awarded counter-drone patrol vehicle orders valued at ₹1.55 billion million to a consortium formed by Sigma Advanced Systems Limited and Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems. Under the contract, a ₹1.45 billion order will deploy purpose-built Indrajaal Ranger Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicles across India's border regions, while a separate ₹100 million order covers urban policing and VVIP protection routes. Work involves deploying mobile Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems platforms capable of detecting, tracking, identifying, and countering rogue drones while traveling at high speeds.
Sigma Advanced Systems Limited is an Indian defense technology manufacturer specializing in advanced electronic and aerospace systems. Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems is a defense technology pioneer focused on autonomous counter-drone architecture and wide-area airspace protection platform development.
The procurement marks a structural transformation in homeland security, shifting defense capabilities from static installations to dynamic mobile patrols. As aerial threats like cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons rise, deploying autonomous protection units along moving convoys and unpredictable border terrains ensures continuous airspace security. Powered by SkyOS, the systems integrate Retractor, Lakshman Rekha, and Net Interceptor technologies into a unified defensive layer.
Globally, counter-drone mechanisms are transitioning from episodic event-based coverage to round-the-clock security infrastructure. India becomes the first nation to operationalize purpose-built counter-drone patrolling at a government scale for daily border and municipal policing. This shift mirrors international defense trends where low-altitude airspace monitoring is becoming as fundamental as ground patrol.
For defense manufacturers and technology investors, the deal underscores growing commercial opportunities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It establishes a repeatable commercial model for private defense consortia entering public procurement, paving the way for scalable indigenous manufacturing in autonomous defense software and specialized hardware systems.
