Skanska has secured a €78 million contract from Satakunnan hyvinvointialue to construct a 27,100-square-metre hospital building in Pori, Finland. The development will consolidate critical healthcare services, including emergency care, intensive care, cardiology and surgical facilities, with construction scheduled to begin in late 2026 and finish in 2029.

FINLAND —Skanska has entered into a €78 million construction agreement with Satakunnan hyvinvointialue for a new hospital facility in Pori, western Finland. The contract, equivalent to approximately SEK 850 million, will be recognised in Skanska's Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2026. The project covers the development of a hospital building spanning approximately 27,100 square metres, incorporating clinical, operational and technical infrastructure.

The planned facility will accommodate several essential medical functions within a single complex. These include a round-the-clock emergency department, intensive care and patient monitoring units, cardiology services, operating theatres, sterile supply facilities, diagnostic imaging and post-operative recovery areas. Supporting infrastructure and technical facilities will also form part of the development, enabling the building to accommodate the operational requirements of a modern hospital.

The project addresses the need for healthcare infrastructure capable of supporting specialised and emergency medical services in the Satakunta region. Bringing multiple critical departments together in one facility is expected to support coordination between clinical functions, patient treatment and hospital operations. The inclusion of dedicated intensive care, surgical and diagnostic facilities also reflects the infrastructure requirements associated with delivering complex medical services.

For Finland's healthcare infrastructure sector, the development represents a substantial investment in regional hospital capacity. The project will involve construction, engineering, building services and specialist hospital infrastructure, creating business activity across several segments of the construction supply chain. Its scale also highlights the continued requirement for technically specialised buildings designed around the operational demands of public healthcare providers.

For Skanska, the agreement adds a significant healthcare construction project to its Nordic portfolio and provides order-book visibility extending into 2029. The contract also reinforces the company's exposure to publicly commissioned infrastructure development. For Satakunnan hyvinvointialue, the investment represents a long-term commitment to healthcare facilities serving the regional population.

Construction is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion targeted for the third quarter of 2029. The delivery schedule places the project within a multi-year construction cycle, requiring coordination of building works, technical installations and specialised hospital infrastructure.

Skanska is a Sweden-based construction and project development group operating across construction, residential development and commercial property development. Satakunnan hyvinvointialue is the regional public authority responsible for organising healthcare, social welfare and rescue services in Finland's Satakunta region.
