Huons has secured government selection for three joint drug development projects alongside biotechnology partners. The initiatives focus on novel therapeutic delivery methods, targeting advanced clinical validation across gene therapy, oncology and ophthalmic treatments.

KOREA (SOUTH) South Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups, through the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs, selected three collaborative biopharmaceutical consortiums for its national research and development initiative. Under this framework, Seongnam-based pharmaceutical enterprise Huons is partnering with specialized biotechnology ventures to transition early-stage therapeutic concepts into clinical execution.

The collaborative ventures focus on advanced modalities to address unmet medical needs. In partnership with SURGINEX, the effort targets the development of a non-invasive eye drop formulation for diabetic keratopathy using lipid nanoparticle delivery. A parallel project with PINOTBIO seeks to advance an antibody-drug conjugate candidate toward Phase 1 clinical trials. Additionally, Huons is collaborating with PearlsInMires to engineer a subcutaneous peptide treatment for drug-resistant solid tumors.

This development underscores a growing shift toward external innovation models within the healthcare sector, where established pharmaceutical firms combine manufacturing, regulatory, and clinical capabilities with specialized research platforms. By sharing development risks and leveraging state-sponsored research grants, participating organizations accelerate the timeline for bringing next-generation therapeutics to market.

For institutional investors and healthcare industry stakeholders, the strategy reflects a scalable mechanism to build high-value pipelines while mitigating early-stage research capital requirements. The success of these programs could set a benchmark for public-private commercialization models across East Asia's expanding biotechnology ecosystem.

Huons is a South Korea-based healthcare company engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of pharmaceutical products, medical devices, and specialized health solutions. The organization actively engages in open innovation partnerships to broaden its global therapeutic portfolio.
