INDIA —Indian power equipment manufacturer S&S Power Switchgear Limited has entered the extra-high voltage segment after its wholly owned unit, S&S Power Switchgear Equipment Limited, secured an order to supply 765kV isolators for a major transmission initiative in Western India. The contract, valued at over 10 million INR, was awarded by engineering firm Sterling & Wilson Private Limited for installation at the Adani Akola bay extension project in Maharashtra, with delivery scheduled for completion within the upcoming financial year.
This order marks a significant technical milestone for the Chennai-headquartered manufacturer as it establishes its presence in the high-capacity 765kV transmission market. Established in 1962, S&S Power Switchgear Limited specializes in designing and manufacturing electrical switchgear, protection equipment, and control system solutions for utility and industrial applications across domestic and international markets.
The deployment of 765kV extra-high voltage infrastructure is critical to strengthening regional power grids, allowing utilities to transfer bulk electricity across long distances with minimal transmission losses. As India rapidly expands its high-voltage power corridor to integrate large-scale renewable generation and meet industrial demand, domestic procurement of specialized switchgear components enhances supply chain resilience for large engineering, procurement, and construction contractor networks.
Securing a position within major grid expansion projects provides component vendors with strategic access to lucrative utility-scale electrical contracts. Demonstrating successful execution at the 765kV voltage threshold positions equipment suppliers to capture follow-on orders as private and public power developers further ramp up capital expenditure in critical energy transmission infrastructure.
