SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp. has commissioned Buskowitz Energy to install an 8 MWp solar rooftop system at its Cebu facility. Set for completion in late 2026, the project represents the largest single-roof solar installation in the Philippine heavy industry sector, providing 25% of the plant's power.

SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., the leading steel producer in the Philippines, has finalized an agreement with Buskowitz Energy to develop a massive rooftop solar array at its Compostela Works facility in Cebu. The project involves the installation of 12,888 solar panels across a 65,560-square-meter roof area. Buskowitz Energy is a major Philippine renewable energy solutions provider specializing in commercial and industrial solar integration. According to official disclosures, the system is expected to generate 12,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually upon its scheduled completion in November 2026.

This development marks a significant shift toward sustainable heavy manufacturing in Southeast Asia. By sourcing approximately one-quarter of its electricity from onsite solar, the Compostela plant will significantly reduce its reliance on the traditional power grid and mitigate exposure to volatile energy prices. The initiative is particularly relevant for the energy-intensive metals and mining sector, where power costs often dictate global competitiveness.

For regional stakeholders, this project serves as a technical benchmark for large-scale industrial decarbonization. Investors and industrial developers should view this as a signal of maturing renewable infrastructure in the Philippines. As domestic policy increasingly incentivizes green manufacturing, similar high-capacity rooftop installations are expected to become a standard requirement for maintaining operational efficiency and meeting emerging ESG mandates within the regional supply chain.
