Sumitomo Chemical Italia has acquired 100% of Pyragro S.r.l. from COPYR S.p.A., securing a key portfolio of natural pyrethrum-based crop protection products. The transaction strengthens Sumitomo Chemical's position in sustainable agricultural solutions across the EMEA region while allowing COPYR's parent group to focus on consumer care markets.

Sumitomo Chemical Italia S.r.l., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sumitomo Chemical, has completed the 100% acquisition of Pyragro S.r.l. from Italian pest control enterprise COPYR S.p.A., according to official disclosures. Pyragro, which managed COPYR's plant protection division, holds extensive product registrations and dossiers for natural pyrethrum-derived crop protection treatments across Italy and broader Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) markets.

Founded in 1913, Sumitomo Chemical is a major Japanese chemical conglomerate operating across agrochemicals, electronics materials, pharmaceuticals, and essential chemicals. The acquisition of Pyragro provides the corporation with immediate regulatory infrastructure and market access to accelerate its sustainable agricultural biologicals strategy across European farming sectors.

The deal reflects growing commercial emphasis on biological crop protection solutions as regulatory frameworks in the European Union increasingly limit synthetic chemical pesticides. By incorporating Pyragro's natural pyrethrin formulations, commercial growers and agricultural enterprises gain expanded access to regulatory-compliant pest management options designed for organic and integrated crop management. Simultaneously, the divestment enables COPYR's parent entity, Zelnova Zeltia, to reallocate capital and operational focus toward its core home care, personal care, and professional hygiene divisions.

For agricultural sector stakeholders and agribusiness investors, the transaction signals ongoing market consolidation within the high-growth biologicals and bio-rational crop protection market. As multinational agrochemical groups seek to diversify away from synthetic active ingredients, acquiring established regional regulatory portfolios and distribution channels represents a key strategy to scale sustainable crop care assets across international markets.
