SunAsia Energy and VinEnergo partner for massive solar-on-water infrastructure rollout

SunAsia Energy has teamed up with Vietnam's VinEnergo to construct 422 megawatts-peak of pile-mounted solar-on-water infrastructure in Pampanga and Negros Occidental, combining green electricity generation with active regional aquaculture.

SunAsia Energy, Inc. and Vietnamese firm VinEnergo have finalized a strategic joint venture to build 422 megawatts-peak of co-located marine energy systems. According to official corporate statements, the $406 million infrastructure program comprises three distinct installations and is scheduled to begin commercial operations between 2027 and 2028. SunAsia Energy, Inc. is a prominent domestic solar developer that has built major utility-scale arrays and test beds across the Philippines since 2013. VinEnergo operates as the dedicated renewable energy subsidiary of Vietnam's largest listed private industrial conglomerate, Vingroup. The engineering framework requires the placement of approximately 700,000 solar panels fixed atop concrete pile systems over inland water bodies, tied to 62 kilometers of newly constructed grid transmission infrastructure.

This cross-border capital deployment directly impacts the East Asian civil engineering, renewable energy asset management, commercial aquaculture, and high-voltage transmission industries. Utilizing elevated pile-mount systems solves a critical geographic challenge by avoiding land-use conflicts, permitting existing shrimp and fishpond businesses to operate uninterrupted directly beneath the panels. On a broader policy scale, this capital deployment supports the Philippine government’s ongoing regulatory efforts to liberalize the energy sector and attract international direct investments to hit aggressive national clean energy grid mix targets.
