The multi-party initiative aims to establish 1.2 GW of new nuclear generation capacity, with initial commercial operations targeted for the mid-2030s. Development activities are being directed toward either an established licensed nuclear site in Nyköping or a newly applied location in Valdemarsvik.
The collaborative framework pairs local permitting, site rights, and community engagement efforts with international reactor engineering, cost estimation, and engineering authority oversight. The engineering, procurement, and construction activities will be managed through a unified execution team, while specialized investment and financial entities provide advisory and structuring support. A dedicated project company will subsequently be formed to oversee the development, financing, construction, and long-term operations of the facilities.
This commercial effort directly supports Sweden's broader energy strategy to expand its base-load electricity generation.
