Novartis India has agreed to acquire the Indian trademarks for hypertension and prostate treatment brand Minipress from Pfizer entities for approximately ₹12.5 billion, while Pfizer exits the product's manufacturing and distribution.

INDIA; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Novartis India Ltd has agreed to acquire the Indian trademark rights and associated intellectual property for hypertension medication Minipress from US-based Pfizer Inc. and Pfizer Products Inc. for approximately ₹12.5 billion. Concurrently, Pfizer Ltd will cease the distribution, marketing, and sales of the brand in India, following Pfizer Inc.'s decision to discontinue its manufacturing.

Novartis India Ltd is a pharmaceutical firm listed in India that focuses on developing and commercializing healthcare products across core therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular treatments. Pfizer Inc. is a global biopharmaceutical enterprise headquartered in the United States that researches, manufactures, and distributes innovative medicines and vaccines globally.

The acquisition substantially expands the presence of Novartis in the Indian cardiovascular and urological treatment markets. Minipress XL, a formulation containing prazosin used to treat high blood pressure and urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, generated ₹2.286 billion in annual revenue for the period ending July 2026, achieving a compound annual growth rate of 6.3 percent over the preceding four years.

This transaction signals continued portfolio optimization among multinational pharmaceutical companies operating in South Asia. By divesting established legacy products, global companies can reallocate capital toward core operational priorities, while acquiring firms leverage established brand equity to secure stable revenue streams in high-demand therapeutic segments across regional healthcare markets.
