Syngenta is investing US$130 million in a new bioscience research facility at its Jealott's Hill campus in the UK. The BioSTaR centre will consolidate approximately 300 scientists to accelerate the development of sustainable agricultural products using artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, with full operations expected by 2028.

Agricultural technology firm Syngenta has announced a US$130 million investment to construct a specialised bioscience facility at its existing research hub in Jealott's Hill, UK. The Biological Sciences Technology and Research center (BioSTaR) is designed to integrate biological, chemical and digital research disciplines under one roof, according to the company.

The facility is expected to become fully operational in 2028 and will house approximately 300 scientists currently based at the site. The investment underscores the increasing convergence of artificial intelligence with agricultural bioscience. By incorporating AI capabilities into the R&D workflow, Syngenta aims to accelerate the design of crop protection solutions with novel modes of action and develop products capable of responding to environmental variables such as temperature and soil conditions.

The integration of real-world data and advanced analytics is intended to deepen understanding of pest, pathogen and soil interactions. For the UK's agritech sector, the development reinforces the country's position as a centre for agricultural innovation and research. The consolidation of scientific expertise in a purpose-built digital environment signals a broader industry shift toward data-driven product development.

For Syngenta, which specialises in crop protection and seeds, the facility represents a strategic move to strengthen its R&D pipeline for sustainable farming solutions amid intensifying climate pressures on global agriculture. The initiative also creates potential collaboration opportunities for technology providers specialising in AI and analytical tools.
