Taihan Cable & Solution has broken ground on a 400kV extra-high voltage cable facility in Vietnam, its first such overseas production base. The $56 million plant in Dong Nai Province will supply Southeast Asian, European, and American markets, positioning Taihan VINA as Vietnam's sole EHV cable manufacturer.

Taihan Cable & Solution has commenced construction of a 400kV-class extra-high voltage cable plant at its Taihan Cable VINA subsidiary in Vietnam's Dong Nai Province, according to an official announcement. The facility, spanning approximately 56,200 square meters within the Long Thanh Industrial Zone, is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and represents Taihan's first overseas production base for EHV cables.

Taihan Cable & Solution is a South Korean power cable manufacturer with production facilities in Korea and Vietnam. Its Vietnamese subsidiary, established in 2005, currently produces high-voltage, medium-voltage, low-voltage power cables and overhead conductors for domestic and export markets. The investment responds to accelerating global power grid modernisation and Vietnam's projected 10-12% annual electricity demand growth through 2030. Upon completion, Taihan VINA will become the only manufacturer in Vietnam capable of producing 400kV-class cables, enabling the company to serve expanding transmission network projects requiring 220kV and above infrastructure.

This development matters for the power transmission sector, where EHV cable demand is rising alongside renewable energy integration and grid reinforcement programmes across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The facility positions Taihan to capture export opportunities while supporting Vietnam's industrialisation-driven power requirements. For regional stakeholders, including utility companies and engineering contractors, the plant adds local supply chain capacity for high-voltage transmission projects. The expansion reflects broader industry trends where cable manufacturers establish regional production hubs to mitigate logistics costs and trade barriers while accessing growing markets. Taihan's strategy to develop its Vietnamese operation as a second global hub alongside its Korean Dangjin plant may influence competitive dynamics in the EHV cable segment, particularly for infrastructure projects requiring local content or reduced delivery lead times.
