Tata Advanced Systems and Lockheed Martin have initiated construction of a dedicated C-130J Super Hercules MRO facility in India. Scheduled for completion by end-2026, the site will enhance lifecycle support for the Indian Air Force and position India as a potential regional sustainment hub.
Tata Advanced Systems and Lockheed Martin have commenced construction of a new defence Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India to support the C-130J Super Hercules fleet. The project strengthens the companies’ existing industrial collaboration and expands India’s domestic aerospace sustainment capabilities.
The facility will deliver depot-level servicing, structural inspections and restoration, avionics upgrades, and component overhaul services. It is also expected to provide technical training for Indian engineers and maintenance personnel while integrating domestic suppliers into the C-130 global supply chain.
Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, with the first aircraft anticipated to enter the facility for MRO operations in early 2027. The initiative directly supports the operational readiness of the Indian Air Force fleet.
Strategically, the development aligns with India’s push for defence indigenization and lifecycle capability building under its broader self-reliance agenda. For Lockheed Martin, the move enhances regional sustainment capacity and may position India as a future service hub for C-130 operators across Asia and allied markets.
