Tata Motors has entered a long-term agreement with Welspun Renewable Energy to jointly develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid project that will supply clean electricity to four manufacturing plants. The initiative strengthens the automaker's decarbonization strategy while supporting India's growing adoption of renewable energy in industrial operations.

Tata Motors has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Welspun Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd to jointly develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project that will supply electricity exclusively to four commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities located in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka. According to official disclosures, the project is expected to generate around 200 million units of renewable electricity annually while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 140,000 tonnes each year.

The investment highlights the increasing shift among large industrial manufacturers toward captive and long-term renewable energy procurement to improve energy security, manage operating costs and reduce emissions. Hybrid wind-solar projects also help provide a more stable renewable power supply than single-source generation, making them attractive for energy-intensive manufacturing operations.

Tata Motors is one of India's largest automobile manufacturers, producing passenger and commercial vehicles while pursuing sustainability targets that include sourcing more renewable energy across its operations. Welspun Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd develops utility-scale renewable power projects and clean energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers.

The agreement reinforces demand for corporate renewable PPAs in India and is expected to support further investment in hybrid power infrastructure, benefiting renewable energy developers, equipment suppliers and industrial consumers seeking to meet decarbonization commitments and evolving environmental standards.
