Tata Power has commissioned the 400 KV Koteshwar-Rishikesh transmission line in Uttarakhand, enabling evacuation of up to 1,000 MW from the Tehri–Koteshwar hydropower complex. The project strengthens grid reliability across northern India and marks a key milestone under the NRSS XXXVI transmission scheme.

Tata Power has commissioned the 400 KV Koteshwar-Rishikesh transmission line in Uttarakhand, establishing a critical corridor for evacuating up to 1,000 MW of hydropower from the Tehri-Koteshwar generation complex to northern load centers. The asset has been developed under NRSS XXXVI Transmission Ltd., acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture promoted by Tata Power, ICICI Bank Limited and global investors.

The new line enhances interstate power flows to Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Delhi, reinforcing supply reliability amid rising demand and seasonal variability. By integrating additional renewable hydropower into the grid, the project supports India’s decarbonization pathway while stabilizing frequency across the northern regional network.

Constructed across high-altitude Himalayan terrain in New Tehri and Dehradun districts, the transmission infrastructure required complex logistics, forest clearances covering 103 hectares and execution in environmentally sensitive zones. Physical works were completed within a year, reflecting accelerated deployment under challenging conditions.

The commissioning represents the third milestone under the broader NRSS XXXVI scheme, following earlier loop-in loop-out connections in Rajasthan and Haryana. With this addition, Tata Power’s transmission portfolio has expanded to 7,083 circuit kilometers operational or under implementation, strengthening its strategic position in India’s power transmission and renewable integration landscape.
