Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has initiated construction on an 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, incorporating solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS). The multi-location infrastructure project features a 400 megawatt wind facility situated in Ananthapuram and a 400 megawatt solar plant in Kurnool. Within the solar deployment, 200 megawatts is designated as a Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) component contracted to NTPC Limited, backed by a 25 megawatt/50 megawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The remaining 200 megawatts of solar capacity is retained for upcoming market allocations, with all 800 megawatts having secured inter-state transmission system grid connectivity. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, a primary green energy subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, is among India's foremost clean utility providers, managing a total capacity portfolio of 17.7 gigawatts, which includes 9.8 gigawatts of projects currently under active development.

The establishment of this utility-scale utility complex spans approximately 3,462 acres of land, allocating 2,700 acres for solar generation and 760 acres for wind turbines. Beyond expanding clean power generation, the land assembly model creates steady annual lease rental revenue for local landholders while fostering regional economic growth. The development phase is anticipated to generate nearly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs across construction, engineering, and support services. Crucially, integrating battery storage into the firm dispatchable component directly mitigates renewable generation intermittency, providing reliable baseload power and enhanced grid stabilization for off-takers.

Developed under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy, the asset underscores state-level commitment to streamlining regulatory approvals and land acquisition for utility-scale clean energy hubs. Suzlon Energy Limited has been appointed as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for the 400 megawatt wind capacity, elevating the cumulative project partnership between Suzlon and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited beyond the 1 gigawatt milestone. This deployment significantly strengthens India's overarching policy directive to achieve 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 through high-capacity inter-state power distribution networks.

For power utilities and institutional investors, the adoption of hybrid solar-wind assets integrated with battery storage represents a vital shift toward round-the-clock dispatch capability, addressing the principal limitation of variable clean energy. The project reinforces Tata Power's operational roadmap to transition to a 100% clean power portfolio and reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.
