INDIA —A 100 MW solar capacity installation located at Kayathar in Tamil Nadu has officially entered operation, pushing Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited’s functional utility footprint past the 7 GW threshold. The newly active solar development feeds power into three major corporate entities within the parent conglomerate, allocating 53.125 MW to semiconductor and precision engineering firm Tata Electronics, 40.625 MW to solar cell manufacturer TP Solar, and 6.25 MW to infrastructure developer Tata Realty and Infrastructure.
The project integrates flexible terrain compatible single-axis trackers coupled with over 260,000 bifacial solar modules to maximize yield across uneven topography, evacuating generated electricity through a local 400 kV substation grid connection. Annually, the facility is targeted to supply 240.63 million units of clean power while mitigating an estimated 150,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, providing directly dedicated green energy to captive industrial operations.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited operates as a major renewable power development subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, a vertically integrated utility holding over 26 GW of total operational and under-construction power portfolio across conventional, hydro, and green energy generation. The broader parent enterprise also maintains extensive electrical distribution infrastructure and internal solar manufacturing facilities.
The commissioning brings the company’s operating clean energy portfolio to 7 GW, composed of 5.7 GW solar and 1.3 GW wind installations, alongside a 12.3 GW overall utility asset portfolio. An additional pipeline of 5.3 GW encompassing 2.2 GW solar and 3.1 GW wind projects remains under active development for phased deployment over the next six to 24 months, reinforcing corporate strategies to support national decarbonization targets.
