Japanese electronics leader TDK Corporation has expressed intent to invest approximately INR 40 billion to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant in Haryana, India. This expansion builds on the firm's existing 180-acre footprint in the region, signaling a strategic commitment to India's growing energy storage market.

TDK Corporation, a Japan-based multinational electronics company specializing in magnetic and electronic components, has announced plans to expand its industrial presence in northern India with a multi-billion rupees capital expenditure. According to official disclosures following the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, the company intends to invest approximately 40 billion rupees to develop a new production unit in Haryana focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting between TDK representatives, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Union Power Minister Manohar Lal. This development is significant as it aligns with India’s national objective to integrate renewable energy into the grid, which requires robust storage solutions to manage intermittency. For the power and utility sectors, the local manufacturing of BESS units is expected to reduce supply chain dependencies and lower the cost of large-scale energy storage deployments. Regionally, the investment reinforces Haryana's position as a primary hub for high-tech manufacturing, leveraging TDK's existing 180-acre infrastructure in Sohna.

For global investors and stakeholders in the green energy transition, this move highlights the increasing attractiveness of the Indian market for advanced climate technology. The establishment of this plant is likely to catalyze further ancillary investments in the battery supply chain, impacting the automotive, telecommunications, and renewable energy industries. Strategically, this indicates a shift toward domestic capacity building for critical energy infrastructure, offering long-term market stability for developers and industrial consumers seeking reliable storage technologies.
