Italian engineering firm Tecnimont has secured a front-end engineering design and open-book cost estimation contract for an Asian petrochemical development, positioning the group for a potential engineering, procurement and construction conversion in early 2028.

ITALY Italian engineering firm Tecnimont has been awarded a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Open Book Cost Estimation (OBCE) contract for a new petrochemical development in Asia. Scheduled for completion in early 2028, the preliminary phase establishes the technical framework and financial estimates required before the project can transition into a full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, contingent on the client's Final Investment Decision.

The engagement highlights a growing emphasis on front-end risk mitigation and precise capital budgeting for major Asian downstream investments. By integrating open-book cost estimation into the design phase, project owners can establish transparent expenditure benchmarks and streamline final investment evaluations in an evolving regional demand environment.

Securing early-stage engineering mandates allows plant builders to embed proprietary technical standards, mitigate execution risks, and secure preferred positioning for multi-billion-dollar EPC conversions. The development also reflects ongoing capital allocation toward expanding downstream processing infrastructure across Asian markets to meet growing industrial demand.

Parent entity MAIRE S.p.A. is a Milan-listed engineering group specializing in technological solutions and project execution for the downstream energy, chemical, and fertilizer industries. Operating through its Integrated E&C Solutions and Sustainable Technology Solutions divisions, the organization maintains operations in nearly 50 countries with over 11,300 employees.
