Telangana secures strategic renewable energy and defense manufacturing commitments at Davos

The administration of Telangana has finalized two separate bilateral agreements at the World Economic Forum to expand its green energy infrastructure and industrial defense capabilities. The partnerships will introduce large-scale pumped hydro, solar power, and unmanned aerospace production to the region.

The state government of Telangana has finalized separate agreements with Sun Petrochemicals and JSW UAV Limited to construct substantial clean energy operations and a dedicated defense manufacturing unit, according to official disclosures.

The state of Telangana is an industrialized province in southern India that actively positions itself as a destination for high-technology, defense manufacturing, and renewable energy transitions. Under the primary agreement, an estimated investment of INR 455 billion will fund three pumped storage hydropower installations across the Nagarkurnool, Mancherial, and Mulugu districts.

The facilities will yield a combined capacity of 3,400 MW and operate alongside downstream integrated solar generation infrastructure capable of producing 5,440 MW. Strategically, this massive capital deployment fortifies India’s green energy corridor by introducing grid-stabilizing storage systems necessary to balance intermittent solar loads while generating roughly 7,000 seasonal construction jobs.

Concurrently, JSW UAV Limited a specialized defense subsidiary of the JSW Group partnered with a US-based aerospace enterprise to establish an unmanned aerial systems manufacturing plant in the state. Backed by a capital injection of INR 8 billion, this initiative expands local high-value engineering opportunities and strengthens the country’s domestic defense supply chain.

These combined investments highlight a growing trend where regional Indian administrations bypass traditional localized industrial policies to secure cross-border technology transfers at international economic forums.
