CAMBODIA —Mining services contractor Thiess, operating through its subsidiary MACA, has been awarded a two-year extension valued at AU$ 170 million to continue operations at the Okvau Gold Mine in Cambodia. The agreement with project owner Emerald Resources NL extends the existing operational timeline through to 2030. Under the terms of the deal, the company will remain responsible for comprehensive open-cut mining functions, including mine development, drill and blast operations, ore and overburden extraction, and related site support infrastructure.
CIMIC Group Limited is an engineering-led construction, mining, and infrastructure services contractor with operations spanning across approximately 20 countries. Headquartered in Australia, the group operates major industrial brands including CPB Contractors, Leighton Asia, UGL, Sedgman, and Thiess.
The extension reinforces operational stability at Cambodia’s inaugural large-scale modern gold mining operation, which has produced over 500,000 ounces of gold since initial commissioning. Continued engagement of an experienced international mining services contractor mitigates operational execution risks during the mine's next production phase. Furthermore, sustained activity at the site highlights the growing viability of commercial hard-rock mining developments in emerging Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
For global mining service providers and institutional investors, the long-term contract extension reflects persistent commercial demand for gold and hard-rock extraction capabilities across Asia-Pacific. The continuation of mining operations guarantees sustained capital allocation toward heavy equipment fleet deployment, local workforce development, and supply chain logistics in the regional mining services market.
