A joint venture between AMNI International and TotalEnergies has reached an $800 million final investment decision for the offshore Ima Gas Project, which will supply feedgas to support the capacity expansion of Nigeria LNG.

NIGERIA —A major capital injection into Nigeria's offshore natural gas sector is set to boost the country's liquefied natural gas export capacity and advance national industrialization targets. AMNI International, operating in partnership with TotalEnergies, has sanctioned an $800 million investment to proceed with the development of the offshore Ima Gas Project situated within OMLs 112 and 117. At peak production, the field is forecasted to yield roughly 300 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.

This development carries significant weight for West Africa's energy architecture, as the extracted volumes will directly supply feedgas to Nigeria LNG Limited's Train 7 expansion on Bonny Island. The extra supply is designed to elevate plant processing capacity from 22 million tons annually to 30 million tons per annum, enhancing Nigeria's positioning in global LNG supply chains amidst rising international demand for natural gas.

The investment decision highlights the operational momentum generated by recent regulatory adjustments aimed at unblocking non-associated gas reserves. Directives issued in 2024 established targeted fiscal incentives, streamlined contracting protocols, and reduced cost burdens for upstream operators. As the fourth major gas field development to reach final investment decision under the current legislative framework, following Iseni, Ubeta, and HI, the project reflects growing private sector engagement in regional infrastructure.

From a market standpoint, the participation of domestic banking institutions alongside an indigenous developer and an international oil company creates a viable template for project financing across Africa's energy sector. Commercial opportunities are expected to scale across engineering, logistics, and heavy industrial value chains as construction and offshore installation activities accelerate.

AMNI International is an independent Nigerian exploration and production firm focused on offshore oil and gas assets. TotalEnergies is a France-based global multi-energy corporation engaged in oil, biofuels, natural gas, green gases, renewables, and electricity. Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is the state-owned oil enterprise responsible for managing Nigeria's hydrocarbon reserves and commercial petroleum activities.
