TotalEnergies has secured a 25 percent working interest in 26 offshore exploration blocks operated by Chevron in the United States. Concurrently, Chevron acquired a 75 percent interest in two adjacent leases. This strategic asset swap optimizes deepwater exploration capabilities and reinforces a long-standing operational partnership between the two energy majors.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA —In a strategic asset exchange, TotalEnergies and Chevron have restructured their offshore U.S. holdings. TotalEnergies has acquired a 25% working interest in 26 Chevron-operated exploration blocks, while Chevron took over a 75% operated stake in two adjacent leases formerly owned by the French energy major. The 26 blocks acquired by TotalEnergies are located 150 to 250 kilometers offshore, spanning 24 blocks in the Green Canyon area and two in the Walker Ridge region, all targeting proven geological formations.

This development is strategically significant as it optimizes the exploration portfolios of both corporations through targeted asset consolidation. By exchanging adjacent interests, the companies can concentrate capital and technical resources on significant prospects. This collaborative approach mitigates the substantial financial and geological risks inherent in deepwater exploration while accelerating the evaluation of potential hydrocarbon reserves in an established basin.

The transaction reinforces a broader industry trend wherein major energy corporations leverage joint ventures to navigate the complexities of offshore development. For the United States Gulf of Mexico region, such partnerships ensure continued investment in domestic energy infrastructure. Furthermore, the collaboration supports industry-wide objectives to develop resources with lower emissions profiles by utilizing shared, advanced operational technologies and integrated supply chains.

From a market perspective, this agreement substantially bolsters the upstream footprint of TotalEnergies in a stable and productive jurisdiction. It builds upon a previous acquisition of 40 Chevron-operated blocks and complements existing production interests in major regional assets. This move aligns with the company's broader integrated energy strategy, underpinned by a cumulative 12 billion USD investment in the United States since 2022 across hydrocarbon, liquefied natural gas, and power generation sectors.

TotalEnergies is a French multinational integrated energy company engaged in the production, refining, and marketing of oil and natural gas, alongside expanding renewable energy and electricity operations globally. Chevron is an American multinational energy corporation with extensive deepwater exploration and production capabilities, particularly within the Gulf of Mexico.
