UGL, a subsidiary of CIMIC Group, has secured a $478 million contract to execute eastern packages for Western Power's Clean Energy Link - East project in Western Australia. The transmission expansion initiative is designed to integrate renewable generation sources and reinforce grid resilience.

AUSTRALIA —UGL has been contracted to deliver three major packages under Western Power's Clean Energy Link - East initiative, generating a projected revenue of $478 million for the firm. The operational scope entails expanding the 330kV Shotts Terminal located south of Perth, executing integration works near the Muja Terminal, and building new 330kV high-capacity transmission corridors between the Muja, Shotts, and Cordering terminals. These additions will establish four new circuits to elevate regional grid capacity.

This infrastructure expansion directly addresses the capacity bottlenecks associated with integrating decentralized wind and solar generation into the existing grid framework. By augmenting high-voltage transmission corridors and terminal capacity east of Collie, the project provides the requisite physical framework to handle rising electrification demands and future clean energy deployment. CIMIC Group is an engineering-led services, construction, and natural resources leader with operations spanning approximately 20 countries, specializing in asset lifecycles across diverse industrial sectors.

The Clean Energy Link - East initiative carries significant implications for Australia's broader decarbonization agenda, specifically targeting network reliability and renewable integration within Western Australia. Stakeholders spanning regional utilities, engineering contractors, and renewable energy developers face enhanced execution opportunities as transmission bottlenecks are systematically addressed to support long-term climate targets.

For market participants and regional investors, the deployment of large-scale capital into high-voltage transmission underscores a predictable pipeline of utility-grade projects. Engineering and infrastructure firms stand to benefit from sustained government and utility spending focused on grid modernization, risk mitigation, and the structural transition toward lower-carbon power networks.
