Union Government approves 17 new projects under the electronics component PLI scheme with investments of Rs.71.72 billion strengthening local manufacturing and value-chain diversification.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has sanctioned 17 new proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), marking the second round of approvals under the program. The projects represent ₹71.72 billion in planned investment and are expected to generate cumulative production worth ₹651.11 billion, along with 11,808 direct employment opportunities, according to official disclosures.

The approved facilities will be established across Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, reflecting a geographically diversified manufacturing strategy. The portfolio includes optical transceivers, oscillators, precision enclosures, camera modules, connectors, and multi-layer printed circuit boards - critical inputs for smartphones, IT hardware, telecom equipment, electric vehicles, industrial electronics, defence systems, medical devices, and renewable energy applications.

By shifting policy focus from finished devices to high-value components and sub-assemblies, ECMS aims to strengthen domestic value addition and reduce import dependence. The approvals follow an earlier clearance of seven applications worth ₹55.32 billion, signaling accelerating momentum in India’s electronics supply chain localization efforts.

During the announcement event organized by the India Cellular & Electronics Association, the minister also unveiled the ARKA-GKT1 energy-efficient edge SoC developed by Cyient Semiconductors and Azimuth AI, underscoring India’s push toward product-led semiconductor innovation. For investors and manufacturers, the expanded ECMS pipeline indicates deeper integration into global electronics value chains and progress toward the government’s $500 billion electronics manufacturing ambition by 2030-31.
