U.S. Army selects HDT Robotics for autonomous logistics initiative to secure contested supply chains

The U.S. Army has selected HDT Robotics, LLC to participate in its Project Sustainment program. The initiative focuses on leveraging autonomous unmanned ground vehicles to automate military supply distribution, mitigating operational risks to personnel in contested battlefields and enhancing front-line logistics capabilities.

The U.S. Army has named HDT Robotics, LLC as one of five industry partners for its Project Sustainment initiative, an effort overseen by the National Advanced Mobility Consortium. The program aims to modernize military supply lines by deploying autonomous systems to handle cargo distribution in high-risk zones, reducing human exposure in hostile environments.

HDT Robotics, operating commercially under the BLADE brand, is an established developer and manufacturer of mobile unmanned ground systems and robotic solutions tailored for industrial and defense applications. Headquartered in the United States, the organization specializes in ruggedized vehicular platforms, heavy-payload manipulators, and robotic technologies engineered to perform in extreme field conditions.

Under the contract requirements, HDT Robotics plans to submit its Dire WOLF vehicle, a six-wheeled diesel-electric hybrid platform derived from its existing WOLF-X robotic chassis. The platform leverages hybrid propulsion to provide extended operational range and power endurance necessary for tactical transport and automated resupply duties over complex terrain.

Automating tactical resupply addresses a persistent vulnerability in modern defense operations: the exposure of support personnel to targeted strikes during last-mile delivery. By substituting crewed transport with unmanned ground platforms, military commanders can maintain essential operational flow—delivering ammunition, medical supplies, and fuel—while significantly curtailing potential casualties.

This initiative underscores a broader structural shift within the global defense sector toward autonomous logistics and crewed-uncrewed teaming architectures.
