The US Department of Energy has secured over $800 million in partner contributions through the Genesis Mission Consortium. The initiative aims to accelerate AI integration across national laboratories and research facilities to boost national scientific productivity over the next decade.

A federal initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into scientific research has gathered over $800 million in non-federal partner commitments, according to official disclosures. Announced at the inaugural Genesis Mission Summit, the funding and resource support will directly back the initial batch of selected projects aimed at boosting the output and speed of American scientific and engineering endeavors.

The US Department of Energy, a cabinet-level agency responsible for managing the nation's nuclear infrastructure and national energy policy, oversees 17 national laboratories that execute advanced scientific research. Under the public-private partnership model, the department is seeking to double national research productivity within 10 years by embedding artificial intelligence across core laboratory workflows.

The secured commitments encompass high-performance computing access, software credits, foundational artificial intelligence models, cloud computing infrastructure, expert technical consultation, joint research frameworks, and direct financial contributions. The public-private consortium supporting the venture currently includes all 17 national laboratories, five National Nuclear Security Administration production facilities and sites, alongside 41 private sector, non-profit, and philanthropic entities. Official sources noted that participation is being expanded to academic and higher education institutions nationwide.

This initiative represents a strategic effort to maintain global competitiveness in advanced technology, data science, and physical engineering. By bridging public scientific infrastructure with private computing resources, the initiative lowers capital barriers for complex scientific modeling in areas such as energy storage, materials science, and advanced physics.
