A joint venture between Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy and Hassan Allam Construction has secured a USD 560 million contract to build a 1,000 MW solar and 600 MWh battery facility in Egypt. This project significantly advances the nation's utility-scale renewable energy capacity and grid stability infrastructure.

According to official disclosures, a 50-50 joint venture comprising Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, a prominent global solar engineering, procurement, and construction firm, and Hassan Allam Construction, a leading Egyptian contractor, has secured a USD 560 million contract. The partnership will execute the full engineering and construction of the West Minya Solar Power Project in Egypt.

The facility will feature a 1,000 MWac photovoltaic capacity paired with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system. This development matters because it represents a critical milestone in Egypt’s decarbonization strategy, directly addressing the growing regional demand for reliable, utility-scale clean power and enhanced grid resilience across the Middle East and North Africa.

From an industry perspective, the scope encompasses photovoltaic generation, storage infrastructure, and grid interconnection works. This reflects a broader policy shift toward integrating complex storage technologies with massive solar arrays to ensure consistent energy delivery, positioning Egypt as a primary hub for large-scale renewable investments.

Strategically, this agreement marks the third gigawatt-scale contract for the primary contractor within nine months, signaling robust market confidence in their execution capabilities. For investors and stakeholders, the increasing scale of such projects underscores a maturing market where integrated solar and storage solutions are becoming the standard for future utility-scale deployments.
